About Urs Mattmann
My special interests include finding one’s vocation and creativity, compulsive behaviour and addictions, Mental health including Trauma/PTSD, spirituality and sexuality, relationships and midlife transition and aging.
I offer Counselling, Psychoherapy, Supervision and Spiritual Direction. I am available to facilitate retreats and courses.
I work with men and women of all ages, individuals, couples and groups, and people of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and sexual orientation. I can offer my services in English, German and Swiss-German.
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
After training and working in the Business sector and studying Theology, I graduated as Social worker in 1988.
From 1997 – 2002 I trained at the Psychosynthesis Institute in Basel, Switzerland as Psychosynthesis counsellor and therapist. I graduated with Diploma in 2004.
After training in 2007 – 2008 at the Psychosynthesis & Education Trust I graduated with a Certificate in Integrative & Transpersonal Supervision at the University of East London.
In 2009 I trained and graduated with a certificate as NLP practitioner.
In 2010 I did further training in EFT (Emotional Freedom technique, Level 1 & 2, Level 3 in 2014)
In 2011 gained a certificate in CBT skills.
In 2012 I completed a training in Body & Trauma work: Psychosynthesis, Somatic Experiencing & Trauma.
In 2017 I completed my training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which gives me further tools to work with Trauma and PTSD.

In addition in the 1990’s I did train in contemporary spirituality at the Friedensgasse community in Basel . Before this I did two years of full time Theological studies. Furthermore I have done courses in Meditation, Life coaching, Spiritualilty and Sexuality, Addictions and Mental health issues.
EXPERIENCE
Since 1988 I work in the Social Care sector as Social worker and Counsellor, (since 1997 in Senior Positions) in Mental Halth and Substance Misuses sectors in Switzerland and UK. Since 1997 I also supervise Social workers and Therapists in a professional context.
In 2000 I started to see private clients as well. Beside having a private practice, I worked until early 2021 as Psychological Interventions & Social Work Lead in a major London Substance misuse project where I managed and clincially supervised a team of Counsellors and often see complex clients. This Alcohol Service is part of CGL (Change Grow Live) and I continue to work as external supervisor for CGL when needed. I work now as Senior Psychotherapist, Supervisor, Spiritual director and Retreat leader in a Centre for Health and Pastoral Care in North Yorkshire. Since 2023 I also see clients for the Clinic for Disassociative Studies CDS, where I am under contract as Associate Specialist Psychotherapist.
Beginning in 1997 I have facilitated retreats and courses, mostly on psychospiritual themes, e.g. in January 2008 I co-facilited with renowed writer Chris Glaser a retreat at the Kirkridge Conference Centre (Penn. USA) on spirituality and sexuality.
Since the 1990’s I offer spiritual group work and direction (including Meditation & Mindfulness).
ACCREDITATION
As Counsellor/Psychotherapist I am fully accredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). In addition as Social worker I am as well registered by Social Work England.
